Soups are the best allies of GLP-1 treatments. Easy to digest, warm and comforting, they deliver essential proteins even when appetite is reduced.
1. Red lentil soup with turmeric
Saute 1 onion and 1 garlic clove in olive oil. Add 200 g red lentils, 1 teaspoon turmeric, 700 ml vegetable broth. Simmer 20 minutes and blend. Protein: 22 g per bowl.
Red lentils are among the most digestible legumes — a major advantage on GLP-1 treatment where digestive issues are common.
2. Miso soup with silken tofu
Heat 500 ml water. Off heat, dissolve 2 tablespoons miso paste. Add 150 g diced silken tofu, wakame seaweed, and chives. Protein: 14 g.
Very light and quick (5 minutes), perfect when treatment-related nausea is present.
3. Chicken soup with root vegetables
Cook 200 g chicken breast pieces with carrots, celery, and parsnips in 800 ml broth. Season with thyme and bay leaf. Simmer 25 minutes. Protein: 30 g.
The comforting classic, loaded with high-quality protein. Warm broth helps with hydration too.
4. Chickpea gazpacho
Blend 4 ripe tomatoes, 1 cucumber, 1 red bell pepper, 1 garlic clove, 2 tablespoons olive oil, and 150 g cooked chickpeas. Serve chilled with sherry vinegar. Protein: 12 g.
A protein-rich version of classic gazpacho. Ideal in summer when hot meals are less tolerated.
5. Split pea soup with ham
Cook 200 g split peas in 800 ml broth with 1 onion, 1 carrot, and 80 g diced ham. Partially blend for texture. Protein: 26 g.
Extremely filling thanks to the legume + animal protein combination.
Why soups are ideal on GLP-1
GLP-1 treatments slow gastric emptying. Soups, already liquid, are easier to digest and help with hydration. Aim for 15 to 30 g of protein per bowl.
